Update 3/13/13! Fundraising is F-U-N, FUN!

Good morning everyone! Again, sorry for such an extended period between updates on our fundraising activity. I know I promised to try and be better about frequent updates but things have been so busy! Nevertheless, here we are and I do have quite a bit of new information for you all on our journey to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure walk in Boston in July!

In the past week we have been finalizing the flyers for the event we are holding at Catch 22 in Merrillville, IN on April 25th. It is a lot of work making up those flyers, but we enjoyed working together on them and coming up with our joint ideas on how to advertise for this event! We received our coasters in the mail that we designed and I have to say that they came out awesome! Cheryl put together a flyer for the WHITE SOX/CUBS tickets we are raffling off, so here are the full details on that raffle below:
Pass on the word to family and friends about our raffle! The tickets are valued at $250 for the pair! What a great raffle this would be to win!

Also in the past week, we visited a couple of businesses (we have many more to go to!) to see about donations for our event at Catch 22. Our main goal is to go to local businesses, let them know we are participating in the walk in July, and see if they are willing to donate anything (no matter how big or small) to raffle off during the event in April. If they would simply like to donate money to our cause that is fine as well. Here is the list we visited on the March 11:

1. Pet Supplies Plus
2. Delock's Liquor
3. Candy Cafe
4. Dairy Queen
5. The Quest Restaurant
6. Amarillo Roadhouse
7. Don Pedro's Mexican Restaurant
8. Teibel's
9. Boston's
10. Culver's

Our visit to these businesses gave us a good start on our fundraising. We left our info at all the businesses about our event and hopefully will hear back from the ones where the manager's weren't available at that time. Best of all, we did get a few donations from some of the businesses. The Candy Cafe in Dyer donated a $10 gift certificate to the store, The Quest donated a $25 gift certificate, and Amarillo Roadhouse donated $20 in Roadhouse Bucks. We are very grateful for all donations we received and hope to have many more coming soon!

We are open to any and all ideas you readers may have to help us in our efforts of fundraising so feel free to leave suggestions or tips in the comments sections! I hope you all enjoyed the update and are looking forward to more in the near future!

Update! Catch 22 Event and Cubs/White Sox Raffle!

Hey everyone! Sorry I haven't updated for about a week. Been very, very busy with life (I'm sure you all know how it goes). But nevertheless, here I am now, and I have some very exciting updates for you all!

In the past week Cheryl (my mom) and I have been working on getting advertising approved for the event at Catch 22 I briefly mentioned in my last post. As I mentioned a company donated to us roughly 1200 coasters so that we could use them for advertisement at Catch 22. We worked as a team last week to come up with a design that was eye-catching and conveyed all the information for the fundraising event. Here's a preview of what we came up with for the front of the coasters.

If you happen to be at Catch 22 in Merrillville, IN before April 25 look for our coasters!

We also worked up a flyer to provide further, detailed information about the event, and here is a preview of what we came up with!

The details for the event are as follows:

We will be holding a fundraising event at Catch 22 in Merrillville, IN on Route 30 on April 25, 2013. The event will be held from 5:30pm-9:00pm. The cost is a $20 donation to our charity, and your $20 donation will include a free drink ticket, appetizer, a raffle entry, as well as the live entertainment we are providing! Please come out and join us on this exciting night and help us reach our fundraising goals all while having fun!

CUBS VS. WHITE SOX RAFFLE INFORMATION

Another thing we will be doing to raise money for the Susan G. Komen 3 Day foundation is holding a raffle for a pair of  Cubs vs. White Sox tickets. The game is on Monday May 27, 2013 at 6:10 pm at US Cellular Field in Downtown Chicago. We will be selling raffle tickets for $3.00 each or 2 for $5.00. The drawing will be held on Sunday May 19, 2013. To buy your raffle tickets contact me directly either through comments on the blog here, on Facebook, you may text or call me at (219) 791-2120 or Cheryl at (219) 798-5693 if you are interested. The more tickets you buy the better chance you have to win! Pass the word on to friends and family as well!

Check back soon for more updates as well as our flyer for the Cubs vs. White Sox Raffle (I will try to be better about doing this a few times a week)!

Welcome to our Blog! Introduction and Update!

Hey everyone! Thanks for taking the time to visit the blog!

First a little introduction...
This blog is for my mom (Cheryl) and I (Lauren) to connect with you all and keep you updated on our journey to the Susan G. Komen 3 Day walk in Boston in July of 2013. We have both walked in previous year's walks, and try to do one about every other year. The first one we did together was in 2009 in San Diego, CA. It was my mom's second walk, but my first, and I really didn't know what to expect when I got there. You see the commericals on TV advertising these walks but when you experience it in person, it is on a whole other level! These women are amazing! Everyone is so supportive and helpful, and it is very touching to hear the stories of survivors of breast cancer, as well as the stories of those who have unfortunately lost loved ones to this terrible disease. Our second walk was in 2011 in San Francisco, CA. The scenery during the walk was incredible and we got the chance to walk over the Golden Gate Bridge which was an experience of a lifetime! The 60 miles seems like a daunting task and definitely takes a lot of hard work and training to complete, but when you're doing it, the people, the scenery, and remembering why you're doing it make it so much easier! Together, with all of our supporters, we have raised an incredible amount of money in the past that goes towards research for a cure for breast cancer. Our main motivator in this whole journey is my Nana, one of the most beautiful, amazing women I know, who is a long-time survivor of breast cancer. Every donation, no matter how big or small, is greatly appreciated and goes directly towards what I believe is one of the best charities out there!

Now that you know some of our background, here's the first update for you :)
This past week we signed up on the3day.org to participate in the 60 mile walk in Boston, MA from July 26-28. We have just around 5 months to fund raise and train for the big event! We are holding a fundraising event in April at Catch 22 in Merrillville, IN and details for that event will be posted in the next post. One of the things we did to advertise was come up with a design for coasters (which were donated by a printing company and HIGHLY appreciated) that will be set out on tables at the restaurant to give patrons advanced notice of the event. So you if you are there in the near future, look for the coasters! :)

Be on the lookout for our next update which will include further information about the fundraising event as well as our plans for training!

Here's a throwback photo for you to enjoy from our first walk in San Diego in 2009!
